Internet TV race gathers speed

by AssociationStudios - 7/8/2010

Internet TV is fast coming into its own, as high-profile players announce products that promise to change the way consumers digest video content.

Google is rolling out services with partners like Sony this year that will blend streams from the internet and broadcast programming on television screens.

Hulu, the popular online video site, recently unveiled plans for a paid service that will deliver broadcast shows over the internet to computers, TVs, the iPhone and iPad, as well as several gaming consoles.

Meanwhile, Sonic Solutions struck a deal with Sears Holdings to provide its retail customers online rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows over an assortment of internet-connected devices.

The approaches vary, but they all present alternatives to what most of us have come to think of as normal: Paying to pipe in a handful of channels we want -- along with hundreds we don't -- in order to watch the few programs we're interested in, largely at the time we're told.

5 Benefits of Using Internet Video

by AssociationStudios - 1/19/2010

Unless you have been on another planet, you have probably noticed the incredible surge of video on websites and blogs. Internet videos are not the future, they are now! So let's look into why you should be creating inexpensive and easy internet videos to promote your company.

1. To Get Your Message Watched: It seems that the ordinary person online has the concentration of a goldfish. Author more than a paragraph or two and it looks like 'work' to read. Videos on the other hand are quick and easy to view and are seen as entertainment, not effort.  As long as your video is interesting and tuned in to your viewers needs or issues, you have your viewers full attention.

2. To Be Seen As A Leader: When you compose a video you are automatically seen as an expert in your field. This gives extra credibility to your company as you become the 'expert' with the answers to your industries problems.  Create informative and interesting videos and keep viewers coming back for more!

3. To Educate Your Viewers: Grab your viewrs attention with an exciting video.  Whether it's a current issue, industry training, or simply a promotion for an upcoming event, keep your viewers happy and informed by offering them a graphically enhanced video rather than bulky text.

4. To Engender Trust: By putting your message on video you have the opportunity to let your clients see your face rather than your busines.  Providing the opportunity for consistent video updates is a great way to build a reliable reputation.

5. Easy Access To Your Audience: Make the largest profits from a small expense. It has never been easier or more economical to produce effective online videos to promote your company, message, or event. With just a little consideration and effort, you could be enjoying the advantages of online video marketing without spending a fortune.

Skype To Bring HD Video Calls To Internet TV’s

by AssociationStudios - 1/7/2010

Skype To Bring HD Video Calls To Internet TV's

Everyone knew it was going to come eventually, but Skype finally announced that the latest version of its video-calling software will now support HD-quality VoIP calls. But that’s not all — Skype is also planning to partner with Panasonic and LG to eventually bring the HD video calls to Internet-compatible TV’s, too.

That means that you don’t have to sit in front of your PC when you have to take or make a Skype call — now you can do so right in your living room.  Skyping on your HDTV will be possible later this year.

You’ll need an HD webcam to make video calls on your HDTV, though, and Skype will be unveiling a line of HD webcams very soon. The FV Touchcam N1 will be available next month for an estimated $70 to $100, and the FreeTalk HD Pro ($120) will hit virtual shelves the month after.

It’s great to see Skype making their already great VoIP service even better.

Video Goes Mobile

by AssociationStudios - 1/4/2010

Two primary drivers of technology today are video and the internet. Video anywhere and the mobile internet have now entered into a new technology cycle and are poised for explosive growth for many years. A new technology cycle will last about 10 years which means there will be tremendous wealth creation opportunities in video and the mobile internet for about 8 more years.

This technology sector should garner outsized relative gains as the mobile internet market develops and a large portion of incremental profits go to companies that drive innovation and gain scale. Companies with the foresight to combine superior video technology into their mobile internet products stand to potentially see the greatest success.

From the Mike Sachoff article on webpronews.com:

"More than 157 million U.S. Internet users viewed online video during the month of June, the largest audience recorded for a single month, according to a new report from comScore."

It doesn't get much more straight forward than this...

"Fully 62% of adult internet users have watched online video on a video-sharing website, a   figure that has nearly doubled from 33% in 2006, according to a research report (pdf) from   the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life project, which also found that 19% of   online adults use video-sharing sites on a typical day (compared with 8% in 2006)."

This article references the Pew Internet & American Life Project that I mentioned in a post   here.
